Yankee Doodle Donkey!
Yes, you read it correctly, donkey not dandy! Just recently, our American staff at TEFL International Seville got a glimpse of fame by having the opportunity to spread their volunteer work at The Happy Donkey Organization (La organizacion del burrito feliz) on international Spanish news. Who would’ve guessed that TEFL was part of donkey fun? Check out below what we do and how you can get involved!
El burrito feliz
The Happy Donkey is an organization that concerns itself with the care and protection of donkeys. Its founders realized that donkeys were becoming extinct and decided to dedicate their life to the remaining donkeys in Donana natural park in Huevla, Spain in the hopes of kickstarting a global awareness. El burrito feliz encourages volunteers to come and experience what it’s like to take care of donkeys while also enjoying the company of other farm animals. All the love and attention towards the donkeys really does help make them a happy donkey!
Opportunities for our Students
TEFL International Seville has sponsored a donkey for years as a way to plug into the Spanish community and provide volunteer and internship opportunities to our students. In addition to our TEFL course, we offer Spanish classes for those seeking to begin or enhance their Spanish language career and also immerse themselves in to the Spanish culture. Not only do they get small groups lessons, they use it in live action. As part of their graduation project, we take them to Donana park to work directly with The Happy Donkey Organization. What a great way to practice their Spanish language skills, perform volunteer work, and become aware of the decreasing number of donkeys to better educate others!
Join the fun!
Many of our past students rave about the quality and diversity of their experience at TEFL International Seville, particularly their work with the donkeys! Past student Amanda says, “I didn’t expect to get so much from this! A simple thing, like taking care of donkeys, was a unique and meaningful experience that I will remember forever.” Some of our students even opt to partake in an internship opportunity with The Happy Donkey Organization. “I really wanted to do more volunteer work and make it something I could put toward my professional resume. I worked hand in hand with the founders and learned a lot! This was an opportunity I couldn’t find anywhere else,” said Elliott, a past student. This is a one and only opportunity so come join us get down and dirty in the farm while taking care of donkeys!
